Community & leadership

Real estate is local. So is leadership.

Ernie does more than work in Berks County. He helps shape the professional and community organizations around it—supporting local business, promoting Hamburg, strengthening the REALTOR® community, and helping people build useful connections.

Why the community work matters

Strong towns do not happen by accident.

Our Town Foundation’s work centers on revitalizing, promoting, and preserving Hamburg—supporting downtown businesses, community events, beautification, economic vitality, and the character that makes people want to live and invest there.

For Ernie, that work and real estate overlap naturally: healthy neighborhoods, useful local businesses, active downtowns, and informed local leadership all affect the places people choose to call home.

Where Ernie serves

Not just memberships. Decision-making roles.

These organizations touch housing, local business, community development, professional standards, referrals, and the future of Berks County.

HAMBURG

Our Town Foundation

Ernie helps promote Hamburg through Our Town Foundation, the community revitalization organization behind work to preserve and strengthen downtown, support local businesses, promote the borough, and create reasons for people to visit, invest, and stay.

That work connects directly to the things that make a town desirable: active streets, strong businesses, community events, historic character, housing, and long-term economic vitality.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Berks Networking Referral Group

Ernie helped build BNRG as a no-cost referral group centered on a simple idea: local businesses should know who they can confidently send people to when a customer, friend, or neighbor needs help outside their own field.

Instead of paying for access to a sales club, members help one another make useful introductions and find the right local business for the job. Ernie remains one of the group’s decision makers.

The Closing Table Podcast

Make real estate a little less foreign.

Ernie and Mel Ficaro use The Closing Table to unpack real estate, mortgages, market issues, and terminology that buyers and sellers may not encounter every day. They also bring on business owners, public officials, and community leaders to talk about the work shaping Berks County.

Real estate languageOffers, financing, contracts, and terms people hear but may not fully understand.
Real-world situationsLoans, difficult properties, market issues, redevelopment, and practical paths through unusual transactions.
